Rogue YOU!!!

Is it not annoying when you an unqualified individual working in an office he clearly doesnt deserve and he flaunts his authority on you?

Or take the example of that watchman in an Elgeyo-Marakwet county who was comfortably working as a nurse and proceeded to offer his 'services' to the county boss!

I could also give examples of numerous guys I know in the displined forces whose dreams are in finance, education, economics, communications and even medicine. With this I think to work in the army one should have a passion, a great sense of patriotism and the physical wellness to top it up.

Then I say many of them are unqualified since it was the handicap of unemployment they were evading and the promise of a permanent job, and for the army hope of no war (cause that's when when they have to work). If you disagree then explain why
we are still struggling with security? why are there Kenyans still butchering each other?

We could also look at our politicians; from the recent addition of county reps, women reps (what do they do by the way?), and ... it could span to the entire public service. Alot of these people do not deserve the offices they so proudly hold (Thats debatable, but I know you agree it stands true for most of our politicians).

But what is more annoying is the acceptance of the status quo by the large majority. Such that even professions Pivotal in the development of our country have quacks at there centre-stage. Now not people who are sleeping on their jobs like our MPs, or misappropriating public resources like our parastatal heads, am talking abot worse! Persons with zero training in fields they are working.

I am speaking of Journalists, or should I say 'journalists'. Yes these people who run morning shows on radio as we drive/commute to work. Supposedly-members of the fourth estate who are mandated to be the societal watchdogs...

Now, seriously speaking you do not want a dog that turns on you when you come home after that end of year party! Thats your unqualified journalist! He does exactly opposite of what journalism stands for, he preys on the society he's watching out for, preying  on the very culture that glues it together.

I could mention the Breakfast show by two comedians on Classic 105 which arguably doesnt reflect the cultural values of our African country...but that doesnt remove blame from the mediocre programming that most of our radio stations air. All characterized with music, gossip and groundless chatter (I dont see how that helps educate inform or interprete happenings for the masses)

We have not seen teachers working as accountants! Can they? what about Doctors as Engineers? or Ship Captains' working as Pilots? Then why should comedians, lawyers and some form four leavers work in the media industry????

We have Journalism schools of repute in the region that offer academic training to aspiring media practitioners and it takes an minimum of three academic years to be well-epuip a student for this job.

What my wannabe friends spoiling the name of this noble profession don't know is that Journalism is actually a calling, it's not about fame, extrapolating controversy or aimless babble in the name of entertainment. A journalist upholds public interest in every piece of programming or writing and only seeks to defend the public and initiate Public debate on important issues. That is a very basic attribute my dear 'journalists'!

Despite the Media Act 2013 giving you guys a chance at recognition for your journalistic-like practices I advice that you either style-up or quit those positions honourably and seek training rather than disconcert the rational majority with your deficient clues.

A professional Certification surely needs to be set up in place to rid us of such characters from the industry and give media owners who clearly don't mind their presence, a breed of professionals who practice journalism and not something close to it.

Perhaps the Media Council of Kenya which legislators are slowly rendering toothless should think about a workable remedy to this emrassment.
